Title: Windows
HPC Server – the High Performance Computing solution from
Microsoft
by Przemyslaw Lenkiewicz, Microsoft Portugal
Introduction to the system along with presentation of the
“Hipercâmbio” project as an example of
application.
Windows HPC Server is the operating system and set of tools designed
for developing and running applications with high demand for computing
power. These include applications operating on massive amounts of data
or performing complex and time-consuming calculations. With the
introduction of a computer cluster and HPC Server it is possible to
significantly decrease the execution times of such tasks without the
need for complex, low level programming.
The tutorial covers the following subjects:
- Introduction to the Windows HPC Server
concepts and main features.
- Brief characteristic of installation and
management features.
- Introduction of programming and debugging
tools – Visual Studio and the MPI interface.
- Presentation of sample applications along
with the analysis of their effectiveness.
- HPC Server as a Research &
Development tool – brief presentation of the
“Hipercâmbio” project
